This place is really cool and did not disappoint!

So there was a free museum day on September 22 that I learned about on our school's PTO Facebook page. Anything that is free or cheap for the whole family is a win in my book. Upon looking through the museum day choices I settled on The Works because I have been wanting to visit for many years but, never got around to it. We had so much fun exploring this museum that is similar to Cosi!

Getting There

The Works is located in Newark and is about a 30 minute drive from Pataskala. I straight shot so it really didn't seem that far. I was really surprised that even on museum day it was very easy to find a parking spot. Parking is free unlike at Cosi and the building is very easy to find.

Our Experience

The lady at the front desk was very friendly and did a great job explaining what they had to offer. We started exploring the first floor where we found a fun area to build a car and race it on the race track. This was very appealing for our 5 and 7 year old as they spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to build the perfect car. The 2 year old lost interest fairly quickly so we went around the corner to find a play area for younger kids. There was a lab, fire truck, farmers market and ice cream shoppe in this area filled with toys like pretend food and beakers. The worst part about this area was trying to get my 2 year old to leave and look at the other things. Next we played in an area with a Lego wall and interactive tablet. They all enjoyed playing in this area for a while. The Scidome Planetarium was really cool, my husband and I were in awe of the presentation while the kids did get a little restless. I would say children 9 and older when enjoy this because they could understand a little more of what was going on. After this we explored the second floor which was full of Ohio history with a focus on the Newark area. Our girls got to make calls on a landline phone which blew their mind because they've never seen one lol. Who knew a landline phone could keep kids entertained for 15 minutes. They also enjoyed sitting in the airplane as we told them about Jerrie Mock, the first woman to fly solo around the world, who was from Ohio. We also explored the vintage items they had on display and walked around an area that was set up like a smaller verison of Cosi's Progress exhibit. By this time our girls were getting a little restless but, we convinced them to check out the train before we left. The railway car has been restored and is in an outer building set up like a train station. I will admit we all had fun playing on the train. Overall, this is a fantastic place that is like a smaller version of Cosi as a fraction of the price. Regular admission is only $6 for children, $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and parking is free. I can't wait to take our next trip back!
